Managing Multiple Gmail Accounts in FireFox

I have a bunch of single-use Gmail accounts for the usual things, like account registrations, site administration, newsletter subscriptions and the like. If you have this same situation, you know that (unless you possess unusual patience) it’s not easy to serially open up multiple Gmail accounts if you have saved the login information for an auto-login. Oh, and forget trying to have multiple parallel Gmail accounts signed in, it’s one-by-one or nothing. Well, until now, that is.

I recently found Gmail Manager for FireFox, an extension that displays your Gmail accounts names, unread message count and various other items in a single right-click interface window at the bottom right status bar of your Firefox browser window. Once you install it and restart FireFox (sigh, it’s just like Windows sometimes…) you get something like the below icon on your statusbar:

gmail_mgr_01_icon.png

Now, just right-click the icon to begin to configure accounts, I have 5 already and more are possible, you can have each, all or none of the accounts be logged into my default. Of course you’ll want to have it remember your password, it’s a single-click to get that account open if you do.

gmail_mgr_03_newacct.png

With your various accounts configured, you now right-click the icon to select which account will be the one displayed in the status bar, where it’ll show like mine below:

monkeyboyscrnshot01.png

Left-clicking on that account’s name in the status bar will open up a new tab for that Gmail account, signed in an ready to read email. I find myself never visiting Gmail.com unless I’m on some other machine that doesn’t have this tool installed. Go ahead and select another account and open a tab for it, and another, it’s a blessing to have multiple tabbed Gmail accounts open and usable.

gmail_mgr_02_tabs.png

By right-clicking on the status bar icon you get the ability to configure general and per-account settings. There are a wealth of different options for each account, including notification sounds, how often to check mail for that account, how it’s displayed and such.

gmail_mgr_04_prefs.png

Another great feature that makes me like this extension is the ability to export and import account and preference settings, so I can quickly get the same accounts setup and configured properly on either a new machine or between accounts on the same machine. This also works cross-platform, such as between Windows, Linux and OS X, say.

I’m sure there are others out there, but since MailPlane only runs on OS X so far, this and other extensions like it are the best hope for multiple Gmail accounts on Linux. Be sure to contribute any that you have found or like in the comments, I’ll credit you and add it to the mix.

Exclude Your own visits from Google analytics on your WordPress Blog

Google Analytics is the most popular web analytics software and no doubt the best out there and many blogger’s use it for tracking thier visitors but many blogger’s complain that their own visits are counted in their Google Analytic’s report and that is annoying if your blog in new because sometimes you are going to be the only one visiting your blog, I will show you three ways to exclude your own visits from Google Analytic’s Reports:

First Method: Exclude your IP by creating a filter in Google analytics

to do that open Google analytics , click on access analytics button and sign in

sshot-22

now you will get the analytic’s settings page, click on filter manager

sshot-23

now click on add filter

sshot-24

now on the page that shows up put the information required to make the filter, the information will be as follows:

Filter Name: put anything you like like My IP or Myself

Filter Type: “Exclude all traffic from an IP address”

IP Address: Put your IP Address here (find it on whatismyipaddress.com)

Apply Filter to Website Profiles: Select your Website in the left pane and click add

And now click save changes button

*remember this tip doesn’t only works with WordPress it works with every kind of site

That’s it from now on traffic from your IP wont be counted, but if you have a dynamic IP this thing wont work as your IP will change when you restart your Internet connection, or even if you have a shared IP on a big network because other users from your network aren’t going to be counted so if you are either of the two then you should try other methods

Second Method: Add a PHP code around your Google analytics tracking code (in the footer.php file of your theme) which identifies if a user is logged in and it wont load the tracking code for that user

here is the php code:

<?php if (!$user_ID) { ?>

your Google Analytics code here

<?php } ?>

you will implement this in a way that your code looks something like this:

<?php if (!$user_ID) { ?>

<script type=”text/javascript”>

var gaJsHost = ((”https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : “http://www.”);

document.write(unescape(”%3Cscript src=’” + gaJsHost + “google-analytics.com/ga.js’ type=’text/javascript’%3E%3C/script%3E”));

</script>

<script type=”text/javascript”>

var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker(”UA-XXXXXXX-X”);

pageTracker._trackPageview();

</script>

<?php } ?>

The above is an example of the new ga.js code

that’s it you are done now with the help of this code google analytics will not load for logged in users but from what I see it will not track any kind of logged in user including your blog subscriber/commenter’s which maybe bad if you have lots of subscribers/registered commenter’s

Source For this Code: JohnTP

Third Method: Using the Google Analytics For WordPress Plugin instead of manually adding the google analytics code to your footer.php file, I too am using this Plugin and it has some cool features that includes excluding the administrator from Google Analytics Stats

sshot-26

Once you install this Plugin you just have to enter your unique Google Analytics User Account string that can be found in your tracking code for google analytics like the one above. you can get more information on how to get your user account here.

to exclude your own visits just uncheck “Track The administrator too” which is the default behavior of the plugin

that’s it save settings and you are done and as I mentioned earlier this Plugin has few other options too that you can see in the above screens like tracking Adsense clicks which isn’t too accurate but still good enough to track click bombing and it does it without modifying the Google Adsense code

With the Elections getting closer and closer, the mud slinging, rumor mongering and back-biting seems to be approaching its peak. While the candidates have to face the brunt of these attacks, no one has it worse that Barack Obama. Ever since he announced his candidacy, he has been under intense scrutiny.

No matter what people have to say about him, it always seems to come back to one question: Is Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim? His first name is Arabic, his middle name also happens to be the last name of one of America’s biggest enemies in recent times and his last name is only an alphabet away from America’s other big enemy. To add to that, his father was a Muslim from Kenya.

Now that you have the background, lets deal with the facts.

- His father: His father was a practicing Muslim but later on in life he gave up the religion and declared himself atheist.
- His mother: His mother was a white Christian from Wichita, Kansas.
- United Church of Christ: He has been a member of the United Church of Christ for a number of years.
- His children: Both his daughters have been brought up as Christian.
- Education: He was educated in a regular school in Kenya. He DID NOT go to a Madrassa as CNN once reported. People seem to forget the apology and retraction that CNN issued.

Conservatives suggest that Obama is proving that he is a Muslim Manchurian Candidate by proposing that all American troops be withdrawn from Iraq. However, there are other candidates who suggest the same, including Republican hopeful, Ron Paul.

They can’t even justify his not being Christian based on other issues like Abortion and Stem Cell research because there are people from the Democrat as well as the Republican side who agree with him on some issue or the other.

It seems that people want to disqualify him so badly that they will cling to anything. However, there is NO proof to suggest that Obama is Muslim, so people should just let it go and move on.

Barack Obama’s Family

Senator Barack Obama is the son of Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham. His father was originally Kenyan, and he came to the University of Hawaii on a scholarship. There, he met Ann Dunham of Wichita, Kansas. They got married in February 1961 and Barack Obama Jr. was born in August 1961. Obama Sr. was married in Kenya and had 2 children before moving to the United States.

Obama Sr. was a Christian who converted to Islam. He then declared himself as atheist.

When Obama Sr. got a scholarship to Harvard in 1963, he decided to go alone and separated with Dunham. They got divorced later. Obama Sr. returned to Kenya a few years later. He remarried for a third time, although, he technically never divorced his first wife. Obama Sr. fathered a total of 8 children with 3 different wives. He died in a car accident in 1982.

Ann Dunham met Lolo Soetoro a few years later and they got married in 1967. She and her son Barack then moved to Indonesia for a few years. There, his step sister, Maya Kassandra was born in 1970. She now lives in Hawaii. automated testing She is a school teacher there.

Obama moved back to Hawaii in 1970 to go back to school. He lived there with his grandmother Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham. She still lives in Hawaii and is a practicing Buddhist.

Ann Dunham moved back to Hawaii in 1972. She lived there till 1995, when she died of Cancer.

What is TRP Rating?

Television rating Point- TRP is the criterion that indicates the popularity of a channel or programme and this data is very useful for the advertisers. In a highly clustered market targeting audiences it is very problematic because in the market there are numerous channels with a variety of programmes catering round the clock to a vast and scattered population. Television ratings provide information about the viewers TV watching habits and the socio-economic background of the audience. This helps advertisers and corporate media planners in selecting the right media at the right time.
Presently, INTAM (Indian Television Audience Measurement) is the only electronic rating agency functioning in India. INTAM uses two methodologies for calculating TRP. First is frequency monitoring, in which ‘people meters’ are installed in sample homes and these electronic gadgets continuously record data about the channel watched by the family members. ‘People meter’ is a costly equipment, which is imported from abroad. It reads the frequencies of channels, which are later, decoded into the name of the channels and the agency prepares a national data on the basis of its sample homes readings.
Second technique is more reliable and relatively new to India. In picture matching technique people meter continuously records a small portion of the picture that is being watched on that particular television set. Along with this agency also records all the channels’ data in the form of small picture portion. Data collected from the sample homes is later on matched with the main data bank to interpret the channel name. And this way national rating is produced.
Presently, TRP is based upon only a small urban sample of 5500 homes spread all over India.
Many times channels misrepresent the TRP facts in their favour. For example, if a channel gets top ratings during a specific time slot it advertises this fact as number one channel. While in terms of average ratings another channel is on the top. Actually, leading in ratings for a long time has become very difficult to achieve now-a-days. There would be continuous fluctuation in the top positions. TRP has become such a big issue for channels that it is almost dictating the content of television programmes. Once the TRP crosses six points, the producer feels no dearth of advertisers. Unless and until a new and more reliable mode of ratings is evolved advertisers, channels have no other option but to rely upon the present system of TRP only and viewers to suffer it.

Nokia N96 vs iPhone 3G

The Nokia N96 will be going against the Apple iPhone next month. The release date of N96 has been advanced — it was only expected sometime past October. The N96 has all the right specs to go against the iPhone, which will be officially available on August 22nd.

First things first — price? Well, the official price of the N96 is currently unknown. The N96 can be priced anywhere between Rs. 28,000 and Rs. 36,000, and the iPhone will sell for Rs. 31,000 for the 8GB version and Rs. 36,100, for the 16GB version. Although, as we note later in this piece, it would be wise for Nokia to price the N96 significantly less than the iPhone 3G — it is, after all, Nokia’s market share to lose.

On to the comparison then. While the iPhone includes a 3.5-inch screen, the N96 comes with a 2.8-inch one — the iPhone’s is a multi-touch screen, while the N96’s isn’t. The iPhone seems to enjoy a better footing as far as its user interface is concerned; especially with that 3.5-inch screen. In every other aspect however, the Nokia N96 seems to have an upper hand.

- The Nokia N96 has dedicated keys for dialing and SMS. The iPhone 3G comes with a virtual keyboard.

- Both devices will come with 16GB of internal memory. However, the N96 supports the microSD format which will allow for an additional 8GB of storage. The iPhone has no expansion slots.

- Both devices will support 3G.

- The N96 supports Bluetooth with A2DP, the iPhone does not offer A2DP support. Both phones offer WiFi.

- The N96 sports a 5MP Carl Zeiss lens with auto-focus and an LED flash. Compare this to the iPhone’s 2MP camera. Both support photo geotagging.

- Both devices will support A-GPS. The N96 adds value to this feature by bundling maps from three countries along with the unit. India, Singapore and the UAE will come bundled with a 3 month navigation license across eight Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi/NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai and Pune.

- N96 comes preloaded with Wave Secure, a S60 security application that allows consumers to track their handset in the event it is lost or stolen. It also allows them to backup their phone data over the Internet.

- Both devices support multimedia features and play videos and music. Here too, the N96 will add value to its proposition: it will come bundled with a full-length Hindi feature film — Om Shanti Om, 50 music videos, and a mix of 100 Hindi and 100 English songs.

- The N96 will also pack along three N-Gage games, with an unlimited license on for the 3rd edition of Asphalt Urban.

- The N96 also comes with an additional VGA camera on its face for making video calls. Handy when we do get 3G connections.

- The iPhone has the App Store for third-party applications, while the N96 has the plethora of apps made for the Symbian S60.

If you are wondering which of these phones to pick up, we suggest waiting a bit until our labs does a thorough job of testing both of them. The iPhone’s review should be ready for your perusal on the 22nd of August; the N96’s not too long after that.

It’s a shame that we have no official word on Nokia N96’s price — that would make a value comparison much easier at this stage. It looks like both parties are playing the price card very close to their chest.

Our take on the price equation: Nokia cannot afford to let the iPhone get the upper hand in the consumer market that both are targeting. While Nokia holds about 60% of the market in India, it will certainly need to guard against the Apple juggernaut. Note that the same retailers that pushed Nokia products will now be carrying the iPhone as well. Considering that, it would be wise if Nokia prices the N96 at a significantly lower point than the iPhone 3G.

Which one would you go for — the iPhone 3G or the Nokia N96? You can book your Nokia N96 at www.nokia.co.in/N96. Note that you will need to pay a pre-order amount of Rs. 4,000. The N96 will be available come September.

How to buy an Apple iPhone in India ? What is the price of iPhone 3G in India? What is the exact date of launch? Will an unlocked iPhone you bought in US or UK work here?

2. If iPhone is available where can I buy iPhone in India – The Apple phone is not available here officially but you can order it on eBay or buy it from some mobile shops in Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderbad, Mumbai, Chennai, etc.

Alternatively, some online underground sites are also selling unlocked iPhone in India but these unofficial iPhone suppliers in India do not share their contact address so be careful in case you run into shipping problems.

3. Will Indian iPhone work with the GSM SIM card of Airtel, Idea, BSNL or Vodafone? If you buy an old unlocked iPhone (not iPhone 3G), it will work with GSM networks here but but you cannot use the Visual Voicemail feature of iPhone. Also, iPhone is GSM based so it may not work with Tata Indicom or Reliance CDMA network.

4. Can I buy an unlocked iPhone in US and use it in India - Yes, any old iPhone bought in US (or UK or Canada) works in India - you can just buy a local SIM card in India and replace the AT&T SIM. Make sure you read the Apple policies as this may break the warranty.

Check these iPhone typing tutorials to see if you can type faster with the touch-screen keyboard. And this online size tool will help you compare the dimensions of iPhone with you existing mobile phone.

11. What is the launch date of iPhone in India – Both Airtel and Vodafone will launch iPhone 3g on August 22, 2008.

12. I have an old iPhone v1.0 - should I upgrade to iPhone 3G ? While 3G means better data transfer speeds that GPRS / EDGE, you really can’t take advantage of the speed here in India because 3G isn’t available. Other than speed, the iPhone Apps store can be accessed from the old iPhone as well if you download and install the iPhone firmware upgrade via iTunes. Also see iPhone 3G Review.

iPhone is a quad-band GSM mobile phone so it will working internationally in countries outside the US though you’ll have to ask AT&T to turn on international roaming on the iPhone and that the places you’re going offer GSM coverage.

What is Qualification for UEFA Champions League?

The UEFA Champions league is open to the league champions of all UEFA member associations (except Liechtenstein, which has no league competition), as well as to the clubs finishing from second to fourth position in the strongest leagues. Since January 2007 the two lowest-ranked league competitions (currently the Andorra and San Marino leagues) can also represent their domestic champions in the Champions League.

The number of places in the competition depends on the association’s rank in the UEFA coefficients table:

* associations ranked 1 to 3 have four positions,
* associations ranked 4 to 6 have three positions,
* associations ranked 7 to 15 have two positions,
* associations ranked 16 or lower have one position.

An association’s rank also determines the stage at which the clubs enter the competition. For example, the three highest-ranked associations have two places in the group stage (for champions and runners-up) and two in the third qualifying round (for third and fourth-placed teams), whereas the lowest-ranked associations have only one place in the first qualifying round for their champions. Nine highest-ranked associations have at least one automatic place in the group stage.

An additional place in the group stage is reserved for the title-holders, in case they don’t qualify via their domestic league. However, an association is limited to sending at most four clubs for a season. This means that if the title-holders come from a league given four positions, but finish out of the top four, it will take the place of the fourth placed team. The fourth placed team will go to the UEFA Cup.

In addition to sporting criteria, any club must be licensed by its national association to participate in the Champions league. To obtain a license, club must meet certain stadium, infrastructure and finance requirements.

There was controversy when Liverpool won the competition in 2004/2005, but finished outside the top four in the Premiership. The Football Association ruled that Everton F.C. (who finished fourth) would get the final spot. However, UEFA came to an agreement that both Merseyside rivals would be allowed to enter the competition with Liverpool starting from the first qualifying round and Everton starting from the third qualifying round. Liverpool became the first team to negotiate all three rounds of qualification and reach the Champions League group phase, a feat matched by Artmedia Bratislava of Slovakia in the same season.

FC Barcelona, Manchester United and FC Porto are the teams that have appeared most often in the group stages: thirteen each. However, each has won the Champions League only once since the group stage was established.
